Frequently Asked Questions
Curious about something before you pick up the phone? Here is what people usually ask.
How does Grand Teton Contracting’s remodeling process work?
Our process has three straightforward steps: we start with a Discuss phase where we meet to understand your vision, goals, and budget. Next, we move into the Plan phase — creating detailed drawings, material selections, and project timelines. Finally, our team executes the Build phase with precision and quality craftsmanship. Every step is tracked in real time through your dedicated client portal.
Can I track my remodeling project in real time?
Yes. Every GTC client gets access to a secure client portal powered by JobTread, giving you real-time visibility into your project schedule, budget, and daily site activity logs — any time, from any device. You’ll never have to wonder what’s happening on your job site.
How long does a home remodel take in Montana?
Timeline depends on the scope of the project. A kitchen remodel typically takes 6–10 weeks, while a full home renovation or major addition can range from 3 to 9 months. Montana’s climate and material lead times can affect scheduling, which is why we build realistic timelines during the Plan phase and share them with you upfront.
What does a home addition cost in North Central Montana?
Home addition costs in North Central Montana vary widely based on size, materials, and complexity — a single-room addition might start around $40,000–$80,000, while larger multi-room expansions can exceed $150,000. Because every project is different, we discuss realistic budget ranges during your initial consultation. For larger additions, a signed Design & Development Agreement is the next step, which brings in the necessary parties to develop accurate drawings and a detailed, itemized estimate before any work begins.
Do you offer free estimates for remodeling projects?
It depends on the scope of your project. For smaller repairs and improvements, we’ll discuss your project on a brief consultation call and provide a straightforward quote at no charge.
For larger projects — such as room additions, major remodels, or anything requiring architectural plans — a complete estimate isn’t possible until the design phase is complete. These projects require a signed Design & Development Agreement, which brings in a draftsman and the other necessary parties to develop accurate plans. Once that process is complete, you’ll have a detailed, accurate estimate based on real drawings rather than guesswork.
Either way, we’re happy to start with a conversation to figure out which path makes sense for your project.
Is Grand Teton Contracting licensed and insured in Montana?
Yes. Grand Teton Contracting is fully licensed and insured to operate as a general contractor in Montana. We carry both general liability insurance and workers’ compensation coverage, protecting your home and your investment throughout every phase of your project. We’re happy to provide proof of coverage upon request.
Do I need a permit for a home addition or remodel in Montana?
Most structural work — including additions, significant renovations, electrical, and plumbing — requires a building permit in Montana. Requirements vary by county and municipality. GTC handles the permit research and application process on your behalf as part of our project planning, ensuring your project is fully code-compliant from start to finish.
What areas of Montana does Grand Teton Contracting serve?
We’re based in Choteau, MT, and serve homeowners across North Central Montana, including the Great Falls region and surrounding communities. If you’re unsure whether your project falls within our service area, reach out — we’re happy to discuss your project and confirm availability.
What is a design-build contractor, and how does it benefit me?
A design-build contractor manages both the design and construction of your project under one roof. This eliminates the gap between architect and builder, reduces miscommunication, speeds up the timeline, and gives you a single point of accountability. At GTC, we take your vision from initial concept through final construction without handing you off to a third party.
Do you handle full home renovations, or just specific rooms?
We handle both. GTC specializes in full home remodels and restorations as well as targeted projects like kitchen or bathroom renovations, major room additions, and structural expansions. Whether you want to transform your entire home or focus on one area, we build a plan tailored to your goals and budget.
Who are the contractors and tradespeople working on my home?
GTC maintains a network of 25+ vetted specialty trade contractors across the region. Every partner is selected not just for skill, but for their alignment with our standards for quality, reliability, and communication. You’re never getting whoever happened to be available — you’re getting contractors we’ve personally vetted and trust.
